A RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENT

Fiscal solvency despite county tax stranglehold.

Due to the foresight and planning by the Town Council and Clerk- Treasurer, Munster residents did not experience the cutting of municipal services and elimination of recreational programs suffered elsewhere, when property tax disbursements were late from Lake County.

Recovery from natural disaster.

The 2008 flood left many Munster residents with little or no hope of recovery. Munster's swift response to the failure of the original Little Calumet River Basin Commission administration was a 24/7 job for the entire community. The leadership of the Town Council, Clerk- Treasurer and Town Employees worked side-by-side with citizens to save their homes. Each elected official actively participated in clean-up, relocation and recovery efforts to assist flood victims. Equally, the Munster Town Council led Lake County in reaching out to Governor Daniels to provide FEMA relief for displaced residents. As a result, the most devastated areas are almost completely rebuilt and the Little Calumet River Basin Commission has been overhauled.... an effort spearheaded by the Munster Town Council.

Reinventing a landfill into an active social venue.

Munster's elected leadership executed a decades-old plan for the emergence of the certified landfill as a dynamic recreational facility. Since 2007, it has quickly become one of the most popular outdoor facilities in the Calumet Region. The golf course, dog park, banquet hall, formal gardens and amphitheater have hosted many social outings, family weddings and community events. Residents and visitors alike make use of the park and its many unique features every day throughout the year.

OUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE

Maintain a higher standard of living.

Munster has long been a leader in public services. Things like trash pick-up, snow removal, pavement maintenance and replacement are often taken for granted here. The next administration understands fully that it takes astute planning to keep this system running smoothly. Outstanding schools, parks programs and facilities, public art and social events are also essential to maintaining our thriving community. This team is mindful of how much these things matter, not only to the town's morale, but in the positive effect they can have on each individual's property investment.

Advance infrastructure & redevelopment plan.

The next administration is committed to continuing with the master plan to identify areas of town prime for redevelopment and implement the necessary changes. The site of the former Carpetland on north Calumet Ave. is a primary example of such visible renewal. Equally, the underpass project at 45th St. & Calumet Ave. is progressing with INDOT and the next Council will work with the federal government for funding until it is completed. Since completion of the new levee, the Town will work with the Little Calumet River Basin Commission to maintain and enhance flood protection measures. Current emergency preparedness plans will be reevaluated regularly, as will standards for personnel, training and equipment upgrades for both police and fire departments. All of this will be accomplished through grants, TIF revenue and within the current budgetary allowance..

Attract continued commercial investment.

The next administration is dedicated to actively reaching out to new business investors to provide the kind of progressive and favorable change residents desire. Going forward, this Council will focus on securing new opportunities to enhance local shopping and recreation options for residents and visitors alike.
